Wo Long Fallen Dynasty Complete edition Review

Updated: Mar 1

Wo Long title

I hope you haven’t missed me too much and I coming at you today with another game generously gifted to us by Koei Tecmo. That game is Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete edition. If you have been living under a rock for the past year, this game is a Soulsborne type game that was released last year. The complete edition of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty gives you the full base game, all DLC add on’s and this includes cosmetic collaborations between Lies of P and Naraka Blade point.

It is 184 AD, during the Later Han Dynasty in China, and the land has been overcome by chaos and destruction. The imperial dynasty that prospered for many years is now on the verge of collapse. As a nameless militia soldier, the player must overcome adversity and survive the turbulence of the Three Kingdoms by utilizing fluid swordplay based on Chinese martial arts in order to fight off powerful warriors and deadly demons. This dark Three Kingdoms RPG is brimming with history, fantasy, and action.

From the depths of darkness, a dragon soars.Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is great as a standalone game but a lot of critics and fans call this the “Nioh 2 we should have gotten”, and I can understand why. It pushes the boundaries of what Nioh 1 had established and made it more fun and fluid. But what makes this game stand out more is not just the gameplay, but the mechanics on morale. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty uses morale levels to determine the strength of your enemies and the best way to boost your morale level is by either defeating enemies or claiming flag posts that are scattered throughout the maps. Think of these as bonfires where you can level up and sort out your inventory.

This makes sense because an army with low morale is easy to defeat. One of the things I like a lot about Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is how you can summon allies. In other soulsborne games you were limited to finding summoning sigils on the floor and only being able to find them usually outside of boss rooms. But in Wo Long you can gain access to allies as they unlock throughout the game from the comfort of the flagposts themselves. They are not limited to location so you can summon them from the very beginning of that level if you wish. Combat in Wo Long is a lot of fun because of its fluidity. The combat doesn’t feel clunky and the fact they used the dodge as the parry in this game feels more satisfying when you successfully pull it off, when the enemy performs one of their many unblockable attacks. It was something I really enjoyed in Sekiro: Shadows die twice and was glad to see it implemented here. Then when the stagger meter fills and you use the fatal strike just feels so satisfying. The game caters to all play styles with a wide assortment of weapons to access from Swords and spears, to whips and fists. I like the utilization of magic in this game because you don’t really have to focus all your points into a magic build. The games flexibility really allows the player to become a warrior mage with the spell slots it provides.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has a great cast of fun characters and amazing gameplay.
